Hello
I’m a timberframer, boatbuilder, joiner, and dog lover.
That about says it all.
I’ve had my workshop in the beautiful countryside, surrounded by Oak and Chestnut forests, for the last sixteen years. Here I fabricate pieces of furniture, doors and windows that are the result of a great deal of design work and consultation between my clients and I.
The most important thing to me is that those I make doors, windows or furniture for get exactly the piece that they are after, the piece that they had almost given up on finding, and so I’m happy to continually refine the design until the client is completely happy. On delivery day, every moment spent working is paid for twice over when I see their eyes light up.
I trained as a Boatbuilder in Lyme Regis and that was where I discovered the beauty of both traditional and modern woodworking. Having always loved ancient Timberframing, the 11th and 12th century stuff, I taught myself this dark art. My work was validated by the City and Guilds and I became the first woman to gain a Structural Timberframing qualification through them.
Materials wise, I mostly use Oak and Chestnut which is grown, felled and processed locally. Any waste wood that I end up with goes onto the workshop fire in the winter and all of the sawdust goes for bedding for local rescue battery hens and one very lucky rescue horse.
And that, in a nutshell, is me.
